If you’re looking for Bible verses that say “God is good,” there are several throughout scripture. Many of them are in the Psalms, but in many other stories of the Bible many people acknowledge His goodness. I’d say the overwhelming majority of examples don’t say so explicitly, but they show God demonstrating his goodness. A lot of verses describe God’s goodness in other terms, too.
Here are 7 powerful verses about God’s goodness:
1. Psalm 25:8
Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
2. Psalm 86:5
For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
3. Psalm 119:68
You are good and do good;
teach me your statutes.
4. Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
5. Matthew 19:17
And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.”
6. Psalm 34:8-9 NLT
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
Fear the Lord, you his godly people,
for those who fear him will have all they need.
7. The Most Common “God is Good” Verse in the Bible
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
This verse and similar phrases are found in: Psalm 100:5, 2 Chronicles 5:13, Ezra 3:11, 1 Chronicles 16:34, Psalm 106:1, and more!
Are you trying to learn more about God’s goodness?
I’m sure my list is not comprehensive; however, you can read more about God’s goodness by reading the full context of the passages in this post. Go to the beginning of the chapter and read all the way through. Or, be ambitious and start at the beginning of the book.
Psalm 145:18 says, “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” I believe that if you earnestly pray for God to show you his goodness through his Word, he will do it. He will show you his goodness in your life, too.
10 Bible Verses that show God’s goodness.
The main list of God is Good verses provide a few reasons why Scripture says that God is good. They praise his steadfast love, his faithfulness, and that he is upright. Here are a few more verses that demonstrate that goodness, for those of us who are curious what a good God is really like.
